Cranberry Festival

October 2, 2013

It’s that time again!  Cranberry Festival is this Saturday, October 5th, in Stone Lake, WI.  Come celebrate the gorgeous fall season by attending the 35th annual Cranberry Festival.  There will be over 300 vendors that absolutely fill the town’s streets with lots of good things to sell, eat and drink.  Come be one of the 30,000 that attend this fabulous event.  And don’t forget to stop in at Betty Lou.  That’s where I’ll be most of day helping out on this crazy, busy and most of all FUN day!

Found – 2 Flea Markets

July 10, 2013

We were on a much needed week of vacay.  In preparation for our 2nd annual 4th of July gathering, I headed  to the town of Cambridge to get all the necessities.  One of our neighbors gave us a tip on a shortcut – taking the back roads, which shaved off many miles – to get there.  When I arrived to otwn, what did I see – A FLEA MARKET!!!  I was beyond giddy with excitement.  :) I took a detour from my planned shopping.

In talking with one of the vendors, I discovered it’s held every Tuesday morning, from 6:00 a.m. to noon.  She told me that since I now knew, it was my job to tell at least 4 more people know.  So I’m holding up my end of the bargain and letting you all know.

I also learned of another not too far away.  Just further up north in Pine City.  It’s on Wednesday mornings from 6:00 a.m. to noon.  So the next morning, I headed up there.  My heart was going pitter patter as I approached the fairgrounds.  This one was huge.  It was not only a flea market, but a farmer’s market too.

Now I just need to figure out how to get there again (and again and again. . .) before the snow flies!

Cambridge Flea Market – Isanti County Fairgrounds

Tuesdays, 6:00 a.m to noon

Pine City Flea Market – Pine City Fairgrounds

Wednesdays, 6:00 a.m. to noon. The flea market will be open every Wednesday through the end of October, weather permitting!

Who knew??!!  It has not been legal to have outdoor flea markets in Minneapolis for the past 60 years – they were only allowed to be held indoors!  I’ve always been just a teentsy bit envious –  OK, I admit it,  a lot envious – of all the people that have flea markets in their cities.  Flea markets could start popping up here as early as this summer.  According to Council Member Gary Schiff, who sponsored the ordinance and is currently running for mayor,“they encourage the re-use of items. They provide space for people who are collectors of vintage, antique and other reused items, and they help really create part of that sustainable local economy that we need”.  The City Council Committee vote unanimously approved Schiff’s ordinance change, and moved Minneapolis one step closer to the return of the second-hand market.  Bless his heart.

Trash to Treasure Event

April 21, 2013

The calendar says it’s spring but it has yet to appear in Minnesota.  Thursday, we got 8 inches of snow at our home and 15.5 inches at our cabin!  That being said, it’s garage sale/yard sale/flea market season – FINALLY!

This sounds fun. . .

Saturday, April 27, 2013 | 8 AM – 4 PM

In search of that perfect treasure? At no cost?
Well, here is your chance! The City of White
Bear Lake and White Bear Township are
partnering up for “Trash to Treasure” day on
Saturday, April 27, 2013.
Residents of the City and Township who
wish to participate in this annual event should
place items they no longer want on the curb
at the end of their driveways.
All items placed on the curb should be clearly marked
as “FREE.” Treasure hunters will have the
opportunity to pick up items that are clearly
marked as “FREE” from 8 AM until 4 PM.

I’ll be one of the treasure hunters.  :)

Spring at the Inn

April 1, 2013

Spring is in the air!  We attended a fundraising event for the Minnesota State Horticultural Society.  Now I’m ready to get growing!  If only the weather would cooperate. . . Unfortunately, we still have snow on the ground and have yet to see a 50 degree day. Each table had an arrangement made by a […]

Papier-Mache Easter Nests

March 24, 2013

This is a quick and easy craft project perfect for Easter.  Smaller versions would also be adorable filled with bird eggs under a cloche. The inspiration came from this article: All you need are a few simple items you likely already have around the house.  I chose to use sheet music but you could use […]

Book Club Treats

March 4, 2013

I am so blessed to be part of a book club that we started almost 9 years ago!  It’s comprised of the women in our neighborhood.  OK – so we’re not a very serious book club.  We choose a book each month and most of us usually read it.  A few times we’ve invited the […]

Home & Garden Show Idea House

March 1, 2013

My visit to the Home & Garden show would not have been complete without a stop at the Idea House.  It was built as a “woman-centered living environment”.  The interiors are designed by Rachel Kate – remember her from Design Star?  Take a look. Let’s start with a tour of the outside:   On to […]
