Cranberry Festival 2012

October 7, 2012

Saturday was the 34th annual Stone Lake Cranberry Festival in Stone Lake, Wisconsin.  This is the 4th year I’ve attended.

The mission is:

“The Stone Lake Cranberry Festival, Inc. is a charitable organization made up of local volunteers, which through fund-raising efforts, donates financial support to non-profit organizations with first consideration to non-profit organizations that promote positive growth of youth.”

More than 30,000 people attend this one-day event each year.  With more than 300 vendors, it is truly an amazing event.  The roads are closed off – even Highway 70 – this IS a big deal!

Saturday morning, we woke up to snow! Brrrr – it promised to be a chilly day.  The day remained cold but that didn’t stop the festivities.  The vendors start setting up before the sun comes up.

The day starts with a steaming cup of latte to wake me up and take the chill off!  Then it’s off to find the official cranberry tent to stock up on cranberry goodies.

It was sooo cold.  Those selling hat, scarves and gloves were very busy.  I couldn’t resist a treat.  Warm cranberry cake – yum!

I didn’t just eat though, there are so many booths and shops.  Betty Lou is a town favorite and is owned by my dear friend, Susan.  The shop is open May through October and is on Main Street in town.  Betty Lou specializes in upcycled, repurposed and some antique/vintage items too.  Susan and her husband John, are uber creative and the furniture pieces they create are truly one-of -a-kind masterpieces.

There is so much to see and always something new.

Cranberry Festival is a delightful event and even though it was cold this year, it was fun and exhausting and I can’t wait till next year!
